Primetime Pictures has partnered with Paisano Films
to co-produce and co-finance "El Camino del Diablo,"
based on Luis Alberto Urrea's "The Devil's Highway:
A True Story," about how 14 would-be immigrants died
in the Arizona desert.
Nicholas Gonzalez ("The OC," "Resurrection Blvd.")
will lead the ensemble cast, which will feature a
number of actors from Mexico, including Damian
Alcazar, Fernando Pena, Gustavo Sanchez-Parra and
Roberto Sosa.
Urrea's book tracks 26 men from their home state of
Veracruz, Mexico, to an area of the desert known as
the Devil's Highway near Yuma, Ariz.
Rudy Joffroy is set to direct the film from his
screenplay. Carolina Fox ("Cronicas") will produce
for Paisano Films along with Joffroy, while Kelsey
Howard and Todd Nealey will produce for Primetime.
Production is scheduled to begin in Sonora, Mexico,
in late October.
